Location Tip:

The Sapp Center for Science Teaching and Learning is located at 376 Lomita Drive. It is adjacent to the West Oval Grove.

Use/Purpose:

The Sapp Center, formally the Old Chemistry building reopened in the fall of 2016. It is a multidisciplinary instruction space for chemistry, biology, and other Humanities and Sciences departments. There are a variety of chemistry and biology labs throughout the building. The Robin Li & Melissa Ma Science Library is located on the 3rd and 4th floors and the Oberndorf Family Auditorium is located on the ground floor (also known as 1st floor).

Accessible Entrance:

The main entrances, located on the east side of the building, are accessible via the sloping step-free pathway leading down from Lomita Mall. The entrance to the left is equipped with a power-operated door and once inside, the elevator is located to the left. This elevator provides access to the ground floor and floors 1-3. Access to the 4th floor is via the library located inside the library on the 3rd floor. Once inside the main entrance (ground level), continue down the interior route to the Oberndorf Family Auditorium (Room 111) and Lecture Hall 114, which is accessible via an interior ramp at the west end of the building. There are also accessible routes on either side of the building leading to the Biology Quad and an exterior back patio with entrances to the 2nd floor and/or ramps leading to the ground floor. Power-operated doors are located on the rear south side (2nd floor) and side (ground) entrances.

Restrooms:

Wheelchair accessible men's and women's multi-occupancy restrooms are located on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors. The men's restrooms are located beyond the elevator to the left and the women's restrooms are down the hall on the right side of the building. There are men's and women's multi-occupancy restrooms on the 4th floor inside the science library. The 1st floor also has a men's and women's multi-occupancy restroom and a single-occupancy restroom on the north side of the building.

Parking & Transportation:

Disabled parking is available in a small parking lot adjacent to the building near the corner of Roth Way and Lomita Drive. Additional disabled parking is located further down Lomita Drive near the Cantor Arts Center or in the parking garage at the Roth Way Parking Garage at Roth Way and Campus Drive. A Marguerite shuttle stop is available at the top of the Oval on Jane Stanford Way, on Roth Way near Cantor and near Campus Drive and Roth Way.
