A clearly defined description of the area you are interested in. You may either:
- Use http://campus-map.stanford.edu to print out and mark the area you need (helpful for difficult-to-describe requests)
- Write a brief verbal description including specific boundaries (i.e., "All the streetlights on Palm Drive to include everything from the curb, 50 feet out.")

The buildings, roads and infrastructure features that make up the Stanford University campus are represented electronically in a series of map layers. These layers reside in our Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and can be individually displayed and manipulated. These layers form the basis of the maps and drawings created by staff at Maps and Records.
A request can be made for any combination of layers. All data is maintained in 1:1 scale. In addition to infrastructure layers such as buildings and roads, clients may customize their requests by choosing to display individual features such as pathways and fences.

Maps and Records works with regional agencies to acquire aerial photography of the campus lands called “orthophotography”. This imagery is stretched to campus landmarks so that points collected with GPS/satellite data can be overlaid.
Aerials: Reproducible aerial photographs of Stanford Lands
- 1980, 1986, central campus, miscellaneous photos. Use our Research Services to access these archives.
- 2001 Color Aerial photography - 3" pixel resolution (Digital Only), see: Basemap Online (limited access - A&E clients please use a Custom Request)
- 2006 Color Aerial photography - 3" pixel resolution (Digital Only), see Basemap Online (limited access- A&E clients please use a Custom Request)
Photo-quality photographs
Images of Stanford Lands, Stanford Main Campus and the Inner Quadrangle are taken every 1-2years. These images can professionally printed for conference room use.
Electronic Data Acquisitions
Maps and Records can assist with acquiring various data resources, and helps direct clients to appropriate resources. These resources then become useful for other campus clients.
New Data Development
Our staff provide data development services after meeting and interviewing clients to determine their needs and long term maintenance of data. Some datasets are created and collected every few years and others become the responsibility of certain groups to maintain through individualized, or our infrastructure GIS applications. Maps and Records helps clients get started on these projects.
